THIRD DISTRICT
Scranton District Dental Society Scranton District Dental Society( SDDS) members, led by NCDHM chairs Drs. Megan Azar and Mary Grace Rizzo-Fryzel, held an event on February 3 at The Viewmont Mall to provide complimentary dental screenings for area children. Part of February’ s celebration of NCDHM, kids experienced a fun, positive dental experience, while enjoying a great day filled with free face painting, giveaways, coloring stations, and a visit with the Tooth Fairy. Another event included“ Tooth Fairy Day” at the Albright Memorial Children’ s Library, on Sunday, February 18. Children enjoyed a magic show hosted by Dr. Brian Kerr, a dental hygiene presentation, a visit from The Tooth Fairy, face painting, storytelling, gifts and magical tooth-filled fun.
Panther Valley Dental Society Dr. Michael R. Everett donated more than 220 dental care kits to Beth Ann Sheckler, Center Administrator for Pathstone Corporation in Lehighton. The dental kits were distributed to children in the Carbon County Head Start program, serving both the Lehighton and Coaldale locations. Panther Valley Dental Society practice in Palmerton, Lehighton, Tamaqua, Summit Hill, Coaldale and Jim Thorpe.
FIFTH DISTRICT
Dr. Robert Berstecher visited with 249 third graders in three Lancaster County elementary schools on February 2 and February 9. Dr. Berstecher spoke to 12 classes at Brecknock, Blue Ball and New Holland elementary schools in the Eastern Lancaster County( ELANCO) School District. He made a presentation on healthy snacks for a healthy mouth and body. Students participated in the presentation by holding cardboard cutouts of teeth, healthy snacks and unhealthy snacks. At the end of the school day they all received a bag containing a brush, floss and tube of fluoride toothpaste and a National Institute of Health pamphlet“ Snack Smart for Healthy Teeth.”
This marked the 36 th year for third graders in the ELANCO School District having heard this presentation. The students and their teachers all have a lot of fun while they learn about healthy snacking and how it relates to good oral health.
