It’ s often the smaller, less obvious elements that have the biggest impact – and one of those, says Gina, is lighting.“ If all your lighting comes from overhead downlights, it’ s easy for the space to feel clinical or flat.” Instead, she recommends layering softer light sources, like table and floor lamps, to create a more intimate feel.
Scent is another powerful yet often overlooked tool.“ In winter, I gravitate towards grounding, earthy fragrances like cedarwood, clary sage, rosemary and cinnamon,” Gina adds.“ A candle or diffuser in the right scent can shift the atmosphere from fresh and summery to warm and comforting.”

Small changes, big impact
A hygge-heavy home isn’ t just about how it looks – it’ s about how spaces are used.“ I love styling small pockets of the home that invite simple rituals,” says Gina.“ For example, it might be a bath tray with a candle, book and bath salts ready for your next relaxing soak, or a dedicated tea station in your kitchen that encourages you to slow down and make a pot at the end of the day.”
Don’ t underestimate physical comfort!“ Good quality, comfortable pieces, such as a nice lounge and coffee table,” says Katherine,“ get a lot of use and make you want to spend more time in your space.” At the end of the day, winter styling isn’ t about perfection – it’ s about creating a space built around comfort, contentment and slowing down.
