A Note From The Editor:

If you ' re a sucker like me for heartwarming stories and happy endings, you ' ll enjoy these two events that recently made the news.
Kingston is finally home after being missing for five long years! Debbie LaFleur said her tiny pup disappeared from her Lake Charles, Louisiana home following a hurricane. After a long and fruitless search, she resigned herself to never seeing him again. Three hundred miles away, Neal Rachal, a college student, said the Yorkie just showed up one day, sitting in front of their fraternity house wearing a red t-shirt. The members took Kingston in, named him Benji, and were ready to care for him. One of them, though, suggested they take " Benji " to the vet to check for a microchip, and discovered he did indeed have an owner. Debbie and her son made the four hour journey to Hattiesburg, Mississippi for the long overdue reunion. No one has any idea where Kingston has been for the past five years, but Debbie calls him her little hero and is so grateful to have him back, and the fraternity says he ' ll always be an honorary member.
Buford is now a local hero in his Seligman, Arizona town. The Anatolian Pyrenees is credited with leading home a two year old who wandered off into the woods. A huge search operation to find the boy included more than 40 rescuers, the Department of Park Rangers, and a DPS helicopter that spotted two mountain lions in the area. The toddler was gone for sixteen hours, spent the night alone, and trekked seven miles through the wilderness. Footsteps and pawprints show, though, that Buford accompanied the boy for over a mile and led him to the property of his owner, Scotty Dunton. Scotty was not surprised by his canine ' s actions, simply saying, " He loves kids." The parents are immensely thankful, though, and know it may not have been such a happy outcome if it were not for Buford, who is truly a hero in their eyes.
I think all dogs are heroes on some level... whether they ' re official service, therapy, search and rescue, police, military, guard, or detection dogs... or just the furball that makes us feel loved and valued every time we walk through the door. The fact that they ask for nothing but our company in return... it doesn ' t get much more noble than that!
