Fashion show is coming up

The Charbonneau Women’ s Association club year is winding down, but we plan to finish with one of our biggest events of the year. On Monday, May 12 we will have our last luncheon with a fashion show as the program. Babs Osterud, personal stylist from The Difference in Lake Oswego, will be coming to present“ Revamping Your Style – The Magic of Accessories.” I am sure that many of you remember Babs from the program that she did last year for CWA. She has been a stylist with The Difference for four years. She says that she is a country girl at heart and loves to be outdoors no matter the weather. Babs has found a style that works for the way she likes to live, and she loves helping women find the joy in dressing. There is no one size or one style fits all at The Difference. This will be evident as our own members will be modeling. I am very excited about the fashion

show part of the day, but that will be preceded by a lovely luncheon catered and served by Its Party Time. The cost is $ 40 for members and $ 45 for guests. Tables of eight may be reserved. All payment must be submitted with the table reservation form. The sign-up book is in the Activity Center closet. Clearly marked payment should be handed in at the desk or placed in the slot

near the Activity Center doors. The deadline is Thursday, May 8 at noon. CWA hopes to see you there to celebrate the end of the year and to enjoy this special day.
This will be our last full club event of the year but, on Monday, June 2, the outgoing and incoming boards and committee members will gather in the card room for a brunch. We are still hoping to have a few more
volunteers join us in working to make next year as interesting and fun as this past year has been. Would you be interested in joining the decorations or programs committees, for instance? Please call, email or speak to me in person. As things change, we try to adapt the club to reflect the needs and desires of our members. We would love to have your opinion and your voice in the planning.

Two-minute update

1. What’ s the latest about the French Prairie Pathway Project?
A big round of applause for the 150
MAUK residents who attended and participated in March’ s Fireside Chat. Your voices are heard! Valuable data was
obtained from the event’ s breakout groups, discussions, comments and questions. The city is collating and analyzing all the findings from the surveys, online poll and fireside chat. Some additional input, fact-finding and due diligence is expected before transitioning to the planning and design stages.
2. What’ s happening at the state capitol that impacts Charbonneau?
When we last visited this topic, raising the floor for Oregon estate taxes, and a focus on Oregon’ s transportation package, were highlighted. A bill to increase the base level for estate taxes is anticipated. The transportation bill is a top priority for everyone at the Capitol. The initial proposal was released in April,
with predictable responses.
Our position has been consistently rooted in the fundamental principles of fairness, transparency, cost containment and targeted benefits evenly applied, multiple funding sources across all modes of transportation and communities, robust financial oversight and accountability.
The preliminary bill includes raising taxes on fuel, registration, titles, and bikes($ 200 min.), increasing dealer taxes on vehicles sold and transit tax collected as payroll taxes, implementing a new tire tax and per mile road use fees for electric vehicles starting in 2026 and delivery vehicle fleets( date unknown). An Oregon Department of Transportation accountability plan is
due in May.
Several other legislative actions that Charbonneau opposed died in committee, as we hoped. Two more months remain in the regular 2025 session of the legislature. Your Civic Affairs Committee and government affairs consultant are paying close attention.
3. Ballots are in the mail for voting on Country Club Board of Director positions.
Our community is very fortunate to have four highly qualified nominees for the three positions on the board that are up for election. Please read their profiles in this edition of The Villager and submit your ballot. Results will be announced at the annual meeting.
