Heart Healthy food choices can go a long way to regulate blood pressure and support your overall well-being. Here are some Heart Healthy Tips:
1. Choose whole fresh foods, whole grains, and limit processed foods.
2. Eat Fruits and Vegetables( Fresh versus Canned versus Frozen).
3. Cook without adding salt * Limit sodium intake to less than 2300 mg per day.
4. Choose fresh herbs such as Basil, Rosemary, Paprika and Dry Mustard.
5. Use sodium free seasoning blends.
6. Choose unsaturated oils such as olive oil and avocado oil.
7. Try to avoid the consumption of hidden sources of sodium such as canned soups, pasta sauces, salad dressing, BBQ sauces and ketchup and prepare your own dressings, soups, and sauces by using fresh fruits, vegetable, and non-processed ingredients.
8. Choose lean protein sources- Chicken breast, turkey breast, fish, eggs, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, tofu, beans, lentils, and quinoa.
9. Limit alcohol consumption, as well as the intake of sweets and sugar sweetened beverages.
While Mindfulness is not a replacement for medical treatments, it can be a valuable tool in a comprehensive approach to managing and healing high blood pressure.
Remember, making lifestyle changes is not easy for anyone. Take small steps to integrate more mindfulness into your daily life. Start from wherever you are … two steps forward and one step back are okay. You can return to living more mindfully any time. and happier life.
