So what ’ s a movie about a down on his luck teen working at a snob-infested country club to raise money for his college education , a man - free to kill gophers at will , and a suave and talented golfer who enjoys hilariously dispensing his view on life have to do with this month ’ s newsletter ?
Well , ASCE-NH will gather for our Annual Meeting on May 30 th at the Derryfield
Country Club ( restaurant ) which albeit not the Bushwood Country Club , will serve as a terrific venue to honor our Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement ( OCEA ) award winner – The Danbury , NH Rail Trail Bridge Rehabilitation Project – and also set the stage for the award of
$ 24,000 in scholarships to a
tremendous group of young people aspiring to be our next generation of engineers ! This exceptional group of ten students provided their transcript and an essay that either explained their career goals ( college students ) or how civil engineering impacts their daily life ( high school students ). It was uplifting to read the ambitions of these students , as well as how one student put it “ Civil Engineering simplifies the process of everyday life ”. Not a bad take on our profession if you ask me , so please join us in celebrating these deserving individuals and maybe dispense a little wisdom to guide them on their way !

, I almost forgot about the second tie-in to Caddyshack ! All that scholarship money we just gave out needs to be replenished , so please join us for the ASCE- NH Golf Outing on August 9 th at the Beaver Meadow Country Club and feel free to take out a few golfers , I mean gophers , while you ’ re there !
