Law Related Education Committee Conducts Civics Essay Contest for Middle School Students

The Law Related Education Committee held a civic essay competition in which middle school students across Palm Beach County were asked to submit their thoughts , in 800-1000 words , on “ Which First Amendment Right Is the Most Essential ?”
The students submitted essays on which of the freedoms of religion , speech , the press , assembly and to petition the government were most essential to a free and democratic society . The essays outline why that right was most important in allowing the people to express their opinions , hold the government accountable , and participate in the political process .
The year ’ s top 3 submissions received cash prizes in the amounts of $ 100 , $ 75 and $ 50 sponsored by the LaBovick Law Group .
Thanks to the LaBovick Law Group and to all the students who participated . Excerpt from the winning essay :
Additionally , freedom of speech also makes the US grow and fosters change and innovation within our country . The United States of America is a melting pot of different cultures and ethnic backgrounds . Due to this , everyone holds their own opinion and believes in their things . Some people may love a person , while others might have a list of things they need to change . Instead of labeling this list “ Bad Things ” or “ Hate ”, the appropriate name should be “ Feedback ”. This feedback is what drives our country forward .
