Rhode Island Monthly , in partnership with the Rhode Island Foundation , is launching the Christiana Carteaux Bannister Awards , named for a philanthropist and successful entrepreneur born into a Black and Indigenous family in 1819 . This new initiative recognizes outstanding individuals who are working to advance equity and social justice .
Nominations are now open through June 30 , 2021 . Honorees will be announced in the November issue and celebrated at a special event .
