Message from the
Park Board President
Dear Friends,
It goes without saying, the COVID-19
pandemic has hugely impacted the world
over the past few months, and we have felt
those impacts in our community and our park
district. I’m proud to say, Glenview was one
of the first communities in our region to begin
intergovernmental cooperation around how
we respond to this crisis.
Back in February we began working with
our partner agencies and local governments
to establish the Glenview/Northbrook
Coronavirus Task Force. Our agencies
continue to meet each week to monitor the
current situation, evaluate options and make
joint decisions to ensure the health and safety
of our community.
Glenview’s response to this health crisis is
a testament to the great collaboration and
work that our local agencies already do on a
regular basis. In times of crisis, we are tested,
and get to see what we are truly made of. In
these difficult times, the Glenview community
and Glenview Park District are proving their
resilience and readiness to thoughtfully and
responsibly meet the challenges we face.
Our essential staff have continued
maintenance of our parks and open spaces,
animal care at The Grove and Historic Wagner
Farm, and scheduled essential projects like
the replacement of HVAC units at Park Center.
The park district has also transitioned staff
members from each facility to find ways to
2
help our residents enjoy health, happiness
and an appreciation for nature in a new
format – through virtual recreation. Every
day, we are posting good news stories, virtual
fitness classes, tips for spring planting and
various activities and videos on our Facebook
pages – all for free.
As we progress through the summer, the park
district will be transitioning our brochures
to be monthly, digital releases. This shift will
help provide you with the best information
about the most up-to-date resources and
recreational opportunities available to you.
We will also share resources from our partner
agencies like NSSRA, the Glenview Public
Library, and our school districts.
Beginning May 1, Illinois’s extended Stay
at Home Order was adjusted to allow golf,
with a number of provisions to protect the
safety of our customers, employees and
our community. Golf can be played at a safe
physical distance outdoors and provides
individuals an opportunity to exercise,
appreciate nature, and mental well-being.
We are committed to safety and have created
a contactless-process allowing golfers to
play within the guidelines set forth by the
Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic
Opportunity.
Just this week, Governor JB Pritzker released
a 5-phase plan to Restore Illinois and safely
reopen our state. Although the Illinois
Department of Public Health has not released
clear guidelines for recreation restrictions in
