Local pet store adoption center offering forever homes to stray cats
T his past December at just four months old , Emily was surrendered to Indianapolis Animal Care Services and placed on the rescue only list due to her medical issues . Through no fault of her own , Emily was almost entirely blind . She had scar tissue on her right eye and her left eye was inflamed and suffering from a protruding third eyelid , also known as “ cherry eye .” This can be very painful as sensitive tissue dries out and is exposed to external trauma . IACS called Animal Outreach to see if their cat rescue could help . They said yes !
Emily was immediately placed in an experienced foster home and taken to All Pet Health Care by Noah ’ s . She was given a medication to give her left eye a chance to heal , but the vet was unsure whether or not her right eye would need to be removed . Luckily , she got to keep her right eye , but she needed surgery to fix her cherry eye . She underwent surgery near the end of December and regained most of her vision in her left eye .
It wasn ’ t long after when Emily joined the PetValu adoption center and was adopted by her fur-ever family !
At PetValu , we try to work with the community to help homeless pets find their new forever home . One of the ways we are able to do this is through our cat adoption center inside the store . When cats are ready to find their new forever family , they come to stay at our store , where lots of animal lovers come to see them , fall in love and adopt . We partner with Animal Outreach of Shelby County .
Animal Outreach is a foster-based rescue who has been saving cats ’ lives for 10 years . They take in kittens , cats , special needs cats and even seniors . They live at foster homes until they are ready to be adopted . The benefits of foster homes is the volunteers get to learn about the cats : their likes , dislikes , how they get along with other pets and children . This is helpful information when trying to match them with the best home for the cats . All cats and kittens are spayed or neutered and have age appropriate vaccinations before they are brought to the adoption center .
If you visit PetValu cat adoption center and see a cat you are interested in , you fill out an online adoption application and a volunteer contacts you within 24 hours to set up a meet and greet . If you fall in love , you can take the kitty home the same day . PetValu gives every adopter a coupon book , including a free small bag of the food they were eating while in the adoption center .
Animal Outreach volunteers come in once
Emily after her eye surgery .
a day to clean litter boxes , feed and water them , play with the cats and make sure they are adjusting well . PetValu provides cat food and litter for the cat at the adoption center . Once a year , PetValu does a litter drive , which is then donated to the Shelbyville / Shelby County Animal Shelter .
Last year , through our partnership with Animal Outreach , over 130 cats were saved and adopted to wonderful forever families .
