A nanometer is a unit of spatial measurement that is one-billionth of a full meter. When used in reference to horticultural lighting, a nanometer is the measurement of the color of light that is being put off by a light source. The visible light spectrum (which is only a part of the global radiation spectrum) is measured in nanometers, with ultraviolet light being near the 400 nm range, and infrared light being near the 700 nm range. This range is referred to as photosynthetically active radiation (PAR).
