strain review CUT AND DRIED: A MONTHLY LOOK AT DIFFERENT MMJ STRAINS BY GIBSON LANNISTER Sunset, as the name alludes, is a strain for those needing some help catching some z’s. However, as Gibson Lannister discovered, it also has a habit of sending people to the kitchen. SUNSET W ithin cannabis culture, there are few names that carry more clout than Snoop Dogg. So, when I heard he was joining the Tweed family, I couldn’t contain my excitement and leapt at the opportunity to try Sunset, a strain in the Leafs by Snoop lineup. From the moment I received Sunset, I was all around impressed. The packaging alone made me start salivating. It felt like I was opening something quite expensive, when in fact, it was very affordable. The specific batch I received had a ratio of 23.7 per cent THC to 0.01 per cent CBD. I opened the odor-proof safety seal and was hit with a wonderfully spicy smell with hints of earth. I proceeded to break up the bud with my fingers. This unlocked deeper aromas of spice and earth with hints of skunk and diesel. This broad spectrum of smells came from several terpenes present in Sunset, including myrcene, caryophyllene, d-limonene, pinene, and terpineol. Sunset has medium-sized flowers with light green buds and a few remnants of medium green leaves. The trim job was impeccable and the product was dried to a crisp. When I broke it up, there is an explosion of trichomes. It broke up really fine without gumming up the grinder. When I smoked Sunset, its effects were potent and immediate. Those terpenes I mentioned above interacted with the strain’s THC and CBD in different ways, improving certain medical effects. There was a wave of sedation, a calming effect that washed over me, yet it didn’t greatly diminish my mental faculties. However, it took only about 15 minutes before I wanted to take a nap. Thanks to this relaxing quality, I thought Sunset would be ideal for evening or before-bedtime use by those who have trouble sleeping. “This broad spectrum of smells came from several terpenes present in Sunset, including myrcene, caryophyllene, d-limonene, pinene, and terpineol.” I also discovered that if Sunset doesn’t put you to sleep, it will send you to the kitchen to make food. This appetite boost would be great for a skinny patient like me who has trouble eating. Sunset was a fairly strong strain, so I would only recommend it to experienced cannabis patients. The come down off Sunset was of medium strength, leaving me slightly drowsy. However, all I needed to shake it off was some sunshine or a cup of coffee or tea. Sunset has the potency, affordable price, and overall high and consistent quality I look for in a strain. It not only lives up to my expectations, it exceeds them. In fact, I think Sunset has become my preferred evening and nighttime strain.
