The more legalized adult-use weed becomes a reality in an increasing amount of jurisdictions , the more questions arise as it infiltrates different sectors of society .

What are the effects of combining alcohol and weed ? Can our pets use it safely to mitigate health concerns ? What will weed look like in the workplace ? How will marijuana consumption be policed when we ’ re behind the wheel ?
In states like Colorado , Washington , and Oregon , some of these questions are slowly being answered as a statistical baseline is developed over time . In Canada , where recreational marijuana use is poised to be federally legalized this summer , the provinces , which the feds have largely downloaded regulatory responsibilities to , are scrambling to develop legislation to address these issues .
It ’ s a monumental task to be sure , and one that will evolve over time as precedents emerge from day-to-day situations . In British
Columbia , the province ’ s new government has put virtually every campaign promise on the backburner to prepare for the upcoming legalization of recreational marijuana .
In this issue of Hydrolife , we try to answer a few questions people may have about marijuana . One of the most common questions we receive often concerns pets and cannabis . There is very little long-term research on this subject , and it is impossible to say what recommendations will be moving forward . Only peer-reviewed scientific research over time will provide us with the knowledge we need to keep our pets safe and healthy . Alan Ray , a dog owner himself , takes a look at this subject on page 34 .
There are indeed exciting times in the marijuana industry . Moving forward with caution and evidence-based data will be instrumental in providing a strong foundation in the industry for generations to come .
