Kush , Colorado ?
A Colorado town is considering changing its name to “ Kush ” after the type of cannabis that originated in the Hindu Kush mountain region , according to a Washington Post report . The town , Moffat , has a population of about 120 people and proponents say the name change could revitalize the town ’ s identity and culture while opponents contend it would be disruptive . The proposal was brought forward by Mike Biggio , co-founder of Area 420 which provides land to commercial cannabis cultivators . Biggio says he is “ trying to create something like what happened with Napa Valley or even Humboldt ” for the area ’ s cannabis industry . Town trustee Ken Skoglund , a 40-year resident of Moffat , opposes the change , saying that while he acknowledges the cannabis industry has led to positive changes in the town , it would create frustrations for residents , who would have to change their licenses , addresses , and other identifying documents . The town is currently named after David H . Moffat , a Colorado businessman and railroad builder .

Employers Lightening Up on Workplace Drug Policy
Recreational use of cannabis is legal in New Jersey . However , marijuana is allowed only for medicinal purposes in Pennsylvania and Delaware . Meanwhile , the U . S . government still defines cannabis — along with LSD , ecstasy , and heroin — as a Schedule 1 substance that has “ no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse .” Despite that , many employers are revisiting their drug policies both for candidates and existing employees and changing these policies to accommodate cannabis users . “ This is a mental health issue ,” says Damian Jordan , the CEO and founder of Phynally , a Philadelphia-based job-search platform that specifically accommodates employers who do not screen out candidates for marijuana usage . “ Many people are using marijuana to treat their conditions .” With many companies desperate to find employees , they are taking out pre-employment drug screening for job applicants in order to fill open positions .

Poll Shows 60 Percent of Americans Back Legalization
A recently released Morning Consult / Politico poll found that 60 percent of U . S . voters believe cannabis should be federally legalized . The survey also found that 27 percent of all voters preferred to keep it outlawed , with 13 percent unsure . The reforms were backed by 71 percent of Democrats , 61 percent of independents , and 47 percent of Republicans . According to the poll , federal legalization saw the strongest support from the 25-44-year-old age group . Most of the opposition came from those aged 65 and older who are still burdened by the stigma of cannabis . A majority of voters across all racial demographics backed the reforms . That included 72 percent of black voters , 67 percent of Hispanic voters , 58 percent of white voters , and 57 percent of voters who identified as another race . The poll was released the day before President Joe Biden announced the pardoning of thousands of people for simple cannabis possession .
