Stars Support Psychedelic Drug Decriminalization
The fight to end the criminalization of psychedelics and give patients access to natural plants and fungi got a boost from prominent people in the entertainment and political fields . Musician Melissa Etheridge and criminal justice reform activist Van Jones spoke at the End in Mind Conference hosted by the nonprofit group End Well , which focused on how certain psychedelics can help ease in end-of-life anxiety and other mental health conditions . Both Etheridge and Jones spoke about the need to break with the status quo and allow patients to access alternative treatments . Etheridge became an outspoken advocate for cannabis reform in the years since she started using the plant medicinally after being diagnosed with breast cancer in her 40s . “ I truly believe that psilocybin is a real key to helping people through the fear of death ,” she said in her opening remarks at the conference . Some cities have taken steps to decriminalize psychedelics including Seattle , Denver , and Oakland .

First California-Sanctioned Cannabis Competition
California cannabis vendors will be able to take part in the first-ever state-sanctioned cannabis competition at the State Fair next year . While companies have been participating in various private competitions like the High Times Cannabis Cup for years , this marks the first time a state government agency will be hosting such an event . Cannabis competitors who attend the 2022 State Fair ( from July 15-31 ) will be treated the same way as wine , beer , and cheese vendors — a strong sign of the normalization of the cannabis industry . “ We are pleased to celebrate California ’ s legal and licensed cannabis industry as part of the CA State Fair in 2022 ,” California Exposition & State Fair board director Jess Durfee says in a press release . The competition is open to all licensed cultivators in California , and entrants will be classified under separate groups for indoor-grown cannabis , outdoor , and mixed light . A total of 77 medals will be awarded . Participants can submit products through March 30 , 2022 .

Woman Accidentally Grows Nine-Foot Plant
Finding a nine-foot cannabis plant growing in your backyard is surprising , to say the least . Behind the back deck and under an awning at Tabitha Fritz ’ s Toronto area home , a seed took sprout with no sun and no nurturing , and became a huge cannabis plant . “ I have this big planter on my deck ,” says Fritz , “ I would always sit there at night and have a joint . I ’ m lazy , I didn ’ t want to get up to throw it away , so I just started stubbing them out in this planter thinking they would just degrade in the soil .” The planter / ashtray sat out on her deck all winter , and come spring , it was so gross that Fritz threw the soil behind her deck . That should have been the end of it , but a wayward seed managed to sprout and now the plant is massive with a stalk so thick Fritz can ’ t even get her hand around it .
