products. We sat down with co-founders and CEOs David
Schmidmayr and Martin Anker to get the story of how it all began.
WHEN DID YOUR PASSION FOR ENGINEERING
AND MECHATRONICS START?
DAVID SCHMIDMAYR: When I was a child I played
with Lego Technic, so I guess that is where my interest in
technical things began. Later, during my studies, I came in
contact with photonics when I did my bachelor thesis for a
company called High-Q Laser.
MARTIN ANKER: As a young child, I was always hanging out
around cars, seeing what my dad was doing. At a very young
age, I started working as a car mechanic, and from that point
on I was very much interested in all aspects of engineering.
WHEN AND WHERE DID THE COMPANY BEGIN?
DAVID: Martin and I studied together;
we always travelled together on the
train, so that is how we got to know
each other better. While having a beer
and waiting for a train in Dornbirn, we
realized our studies would soon be over.
As we were working for the companies we
did our respective theses for, we decided it
wasn’t something we would like to do in the future.
We started thinking of alternatives, something we could
do on our own. We knew our capabilities and we both liked
to work with plants. I grew bonsais for a very long time,
and Martin has a garden he has grown since he was a child.
