Trail Running...

Growing up in Northumberland I was surrounded by nature in all it’s ruggedness from an early age. Our winters are cold and our summers are, if I’m honest, short and somewhat lackluster so from a young age I learnt how to endure and push myself in the bleakest of conditions. It was my eagerness to do this and my love of moving over the land that lead me to trail running (or fell running as we call it here).

I’ve been fortunate enough to run in some spectacular places all over the world and the joy of movement and the connection with the land that trail running affords me is a hugely important part of my life. So important that I’ve made it something of a mission to engage others in the sport as well and have recently started, as part of my own business, taking people into our local national park area and around our trail running networks with the aim of introducing them to the joys of running in great open spaces.

Running is, by it’s nature, a solitary activity and much of my time is spent alone or with a small group of friends in the mountainous areas of the UK training and exploring by foot but I think it’s essential to try and introduce as many people as I can to the sport and through my own work and my involvement in our local fell running teams, clubs and race scene I hope to achieve just that.
