Terms in Hyperbola
o The two fixed points are called the foci of the hyperbola. o The mid-point of the line segment joining the foci is called the centre of the hyperbola. o The line through the foci is called the transverse axis o Line through centre & perpendicular to transverse axis is called conjugate axis. o Points at which hyperbola intersects transverse axis are called vertices. o Asymptotes
Distance between the two foci = 2c Distance between two vertices( the length of the transverse axis) = 2a Length of conjugate axis = 2b Relation: b 2 = c 2 – a 2 Eccentricity, e = c / a. Since c ≥ a, the eccentricity is never less than one.
