Egyptian Mathematics : Information about ancient Egyptian mathematics is almost non-existent . There are two main reasons for this . First , the ancient Egyptians wrote on papyrus ; The second reason is that the written documents were destroyed as a result of 3 great fires in the library of Alexandria . Two papyri have survived to the present day , pertaining to mathematics in Egypt at that time , which seem to have been preserved under exceptional circumstances . These two papyrus are the main sources of our knowledge of Egyptian mathematics .
