Beyond these openings, anticipation surrounds the forthcoming Museum of World Culture, still largely undisclosed yet already suggestive of a bold ambition: to position Saudi Arabia as an active participant in international civilizational dialogue.
The Eleven Regional Museums: Specificity over Repetition If the Commission’ s urban museums articulate a national narrative, its most innovative undertaking may be the network of eleven Regional Museums. Rather than replicating the conventional“ heritage museum” model( already abundant across the Kingdom) each province is assigned a singular thematic focus, rooting institutions deeply in local identity while avoiding redundancy.
Modern, Traditional, and Ancient Arts In a country where archaeologists have explored thousands of sites of interest, it is timely to create a museum dedicated entirely to rock art and inscriptions. It will open in the Hail province, home to two major archaeological sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In Aseer, long celebrated for its vibrant visual culture, the regional museum will centre on art. The region’ s famed Al Qatt Al-Aseeri wall paintings, geometric compositions traditionally created by women, provide a foundation for a broader exploration of aesthetic production, past and present.
Vernacular architecture will be the focus of the museum in Najran province. It offers an opportunity to admire the extraordinary diversity of construction across the Kingdom: mud-brick structures in oasis areas, stone houses in the mountains, light huts in the Tehama region, and Bedouin tents in the desert.

الفنون: الحديثة والتّقليديّة والقديمة
في بلدٍ استكشف فيه علماء الآثار آلاف المواقع الجديرة بالاهتمام ، يأتي إنشاءُ متحفٍ يُكرّس بالكامل لفنون النّقوش الصّ خريّة والكتابات القديمة بوصفه خطوةً بالغة الملاءمة في توقيتها ومعناها. ومن المُقرّر أن يُبصرِ َ هذا المشروع النّورَ في منطقة“ حائل ،” وهي موطن موقِعَ نين أثرِيّ نين بارزَينن مُدرجَ نين في قائمة الترّ اثٍ العالميّ لليونسكو ، ليُحوّل هذه الشّ هادات الحجريّة من أثرٍ صامت إلى معرفةٍ تُقرأ وتُروى. وفي“ عسير ،” المعروفة بثقافتها البصريّة الزّاهية ، سيركّز المتحف الإقليميّ علّى الفنّ ، مستندًا إلى تقاليد القطّ العسيريّّ— تشكيلات هندسيّة تقليديّة أبدعتها النّساء— ضمن قراءة أوسع للإنتاج الجماليّ ، قديمة
