Alongside these projects, we place great importance on enriching our collections and on developing scientific and museum cooperation, particularly through training and the exchange of expertise. Our roadmap for the coming phase rests on three complementary priorities: continuing to open new museums, strengthening the existing network, and developing projects with cultural, scientific, and international ambitions. The goal is to build an integrated museum ecosystem that produces and disseminates knowledge, promotes our heritage, speaks to new generations, and strengthens Morocco’ s standing nationally, across Africa, and internationally.
Beyond visitor and tourist numbers, what other internal criteria does the National Foundation of Museums use to assess the performance and success of museums in its network?
Visitor numbers at our museums are showing positive, sustained growth. Still, we cannot judge a museum’ s success by a single indicator. We rely on a range of criteria to measure its appeal, its impact on audiences, and its operational effectiveness. The visitor experience comes first. We pay close attention to visitor satisfaction, how well visitors understand the content, and whether they want to return and share their experience with others. The quality of the welcome, accessibility, clear wayfinding, staff availability, and comfortable spaces are essential to that experience. The richness and relevance of cultural programming are also decisive. A varied offering of exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and activities attracts diverse audiences and keeps the museum lively and dynamic. The interest these programs generate, and their ability to build lasting relationships with audiences and broaden the visitor base, are key indicators of a museum’ s appeal.
