ARAB FASHION AT THE INSTITUT DU MONDE ARABE
The second Institut du Monde Arabe Fashion Prize, held in Paris on October 7 – 8, honored six designers chosen from some 130 candidates: Fatma Mostafa( Egypt, Accessories Award), Ibrahim Shebani of Libya’ s Born in Exile( Creative Entrepreneurship Award), Salim Azzam( Lebanon, Creative Excellence and Craftsmanship Award), and Ahyam Hassan( Palestine, Emerging Talent Award), with Special Jury Prizes for Hind Hilal( Palestine) and Kais Masood of Lebanon’ s Goodwill. Their work treats heritage as a resource for reinvention rather than nostalgia.
MUSEUMS AND WELL-BEING
In Shanghai, the Shanghai Natural History Museum has established what is described as China’ s first Museum Healing Alliance, bringing together doctors, curators, and artists around a“ museum prescription” initiative that recommends museum experiences as nonmedical support for well-being. MuseumNext will explore the same theme at its online summit Museums, Health & Well-Being on January 26 – 27, 2027; its call for speakers is now open.
RETURNING SANDS
Due for release in 2027, Returning Sands, directed by Aicha Cherif, follows Sudanese heritage expert Ali Nour as he oversees high-risk preservation projects across Sudan from exile in Cairo. The wider project also supports the creation of a Sudanese chapter of Blue Shield International.
BAGHDAD MODERN IN ABU DHABI
All Manner of Experiments: Legacies of the Baghdad Modern Art Group, curated by Dr. Nada Shabout, is on view at NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery until January 3, 2027. Its public program includes a conversation between Shabout and Iraqi artist Hanaa Malallah on women artists associated with the group.
TASWEER PROJECT AWARD
Now in its sixth edition, the Tasweer Project Award, presented by Tasweer Photo Festival Qatar with Dazed MENA, has selected ten photographers from Yemen, Iran, Qatar, Morocco, Lebanon, Egypt, and Sudan. Each receives QAR 30,000 to develop a long-term project, along with curatorial mentorship and an invitation to exhibit at the biennial festival.
