The consumption of fruits cannot be neglected in one’s food diet for cancer prevention. For example, pineapple contains enzymes such as bromelain that can fight inflammation, boost the immune system, and decrease excessive blood coagulation. Pineapple is also a strong antioxidant. Red grape is also excellent. According to M.D Anderson Cancer Center, TX, having possible properties to stop cancers such liver, stomach, breast, or lymphatic system; and so can be a support in treating such cancer. Grapes work by decreasing survivin an anti-apoptotic gene, stimulate the release of Cytochrome C from mitochondria and activate the proteins caspases that initiate apoptosis and the dead of cancer cells. You can mix pineapple juice with grape juice to make an excellent anti-cancer drink. Pomegranate, as previously mentioned, also has anticancer properties especially indicated as prevention and treatment for prostate cancer. But other fruits, such as raspberry, strawberry, blueberry, and mulberry are rich in antioxidants, polyphenols, and ellagic acid. Mulberries are rich in anthocyanin, catechins, flavonoids, and various phenolic acids, all with anticancer activity in a variety of cancer cell types. Eating this fruit during treatment acts synergistically with better response and less toxicity, especially in prostate cancer.

Nature offers us all the medicine we need in our food spread all over the planet but for decades we have ignored this, and yes, even if the doctor is here to treat us we cannot forget that it is Nature that cures.

Other Foods include a little source of proteins and good fat like walnuts, almonds, and other nuts. Flaxseed and walnut oils are rich in omega 3. Here I cannot begin to fully describe the major importance of omega 3 fatty acid in our diet over omega 6 fatty acid, which in excess produces molecules that trigger the inflammatory process and blocks the immune system.  Omega 3 fats (alpha-linolenic acid, EPA, DHA) have been shown in animal studies to be protected from cancer while omega 6 (linoleic acid and arachidonic acid are cancer proving fats. Today in the industrial countries there is a major omega 3-6 ratio imbalance. The balance in the paleologic diet was 1:1.

In Japan, the balance is 1 in 4 but in industrial countries, the balance is 1 in 20 leading to more disease.

A good source of carbohydrate-rich vitamins, minerals, and enzymes which also increases your immune defense are: quinoa, millet, buckwheat, whole bran rice, oats, wild rice, and bulgur.

 Sources of protein:

Organic tofu, cheese, yogurt, organic pastured poultry wild salmon, seaweed, miso, sprouts vegetables, fermented dairy, pasture-raised meat, and fermented soybeans; cottage cheese, sesame seeds, millet, nuts. (All organic)

Good sources of fats: *Pasture fed meats,, *organic flax seed oil (Editor), organic cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil, virgin walnut oil, organic avocados and avocado oil, *organic raw unsalted butter (*Editor's note)).

All foods with sugar are avoided in case of cancer and considered only as a reduced source of carbohydrates, as suggested in today’s Ketogenic diet together with a higher amount of healthy fat.  It causes your body to switch to utilizing ketones (produced by burning fats) instead of glucose as the primary source of energy. Decreasing glucose production which is used by the tumor for energy will, on the contrary, starve the tumor.

However, in a normal healthful diet consuming natural non pasteurized honey is healthy and strongly recommended. It is also important to realize that any diet needs some special direction according to the condition of the patient and the whether he or she can or cannot absorb food or has lost much weight and needs to recover with a personalized diet.

Ketogenic diets can work but not with every cancer patient if they are weak and have lost weight.  A short fast of 2-3 days (or 3-4) is recommended. I also recommend one day on vegetable juices the day before going to chemotherapy, if not undergoing one day of fasting. After chemotherapy, we recommend drinking a mixture of carrot, lemon, apple, and parsley to promote detoxification. I have utilized this combination for the past 4 decades and now it began to become a rule even in the ketogenic diet by restricting calories and helping the body to recover. Healthy cells are more protected from chemotherapy and it also helps to decrease inflammatory factors.
