• Group counselling skills and psychotherapy
• Cognitive behaviour therapy
• Advanced personnel and career development counselling
• Counselling research design , statistics and program evaluation
• Psychological assessment and measurement .
PART B . PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE IN COUNSELLING ( 18 POINTS )
• Counselling internship
• Counselling practicum .
Learning outcomes
You ’ ll be able to :
• demonstrate an advanced level of knowledge of evidence-based theories and frameworks related to the major schools of counselling and psychotherapy
• relate appropriate therapeutic approaches and strategies to the corresponding developmental stages across childhood , adolescence , adulthood and ageing
• demonstrate capacity in synthesising and communicating ideas at an advanced academic level
• demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity in all aspects of professional counselling
• develop a deeper understanding of self , personal values and preferred styles of counselling
• assess clients both formally and informally through individual , family , group and career counselling
• apply the knowledge and skills developed in counselling practice in a workplace setting
• recognise the ethical and professional issues in counselling and psychology
• demonstrate knowledge of appropriate research approaches and apply research and evaluation skills in the contexts of research , report writing , case notes and referrals .
Entry requirements
ELIGIBILITY Australian bachelor ’ s degree ( or equivalent ) 1
• Meet the English language requirements of the University . The following English proficiency tests are accepted :
– IELTS – Overall band score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0
– Internet-based TOEFL / TOEFL IBT Special Home Edition – Total score of 79 with 12 in Listening , 13 in Reading , 21 in Writing and 18 in Speaking
– Certified paper-based TOEFL – Total score of 550 with TWE of 4.5
– PTE – Overall score of 58 with no Communicative Skills lower than 50
– CAE , CPE or Linguaskill General – Minimum overall score of 176 with no skill score lower than 169 .
The above tests must be taken within 36 months prior to the course commencement date .
Average requirements
WAM 60 Any other qualification deemed equivalent by the University .
1 You must submit your latest curriculum vitae ( CV ), referee reports from two academics , and pass an interview that will assess your motivation to undertake the degree and your personal and professional suitability . The interview will consist of a multi-station assessment process .
