Course structure
A . FOUNDATIONS FOR ADVANCED BUSINESS INFORMATION SYSTEMS ( 24 points ) You ’ ll complete four advanced preparatory units :
• Introduction to business information systems
• Systems analysis and design
• Programming foundations in Java
• Introduction to databases .
B . CORE MASTER ’ S STUDY ( 48 points ) You ’ ll complete : i ) Four compulsory units : – Project management – IT research methods – Enterprise systems – Data in society
ii ) Four Business information system specialisation units – Information and knowledge management systems – IT for management decision-making – Enterprise architecture and management – User interface design and usability – Business process modelling design and simulation – Business intelligence and data warehousing .
C . ADVANCED PRACTICE ( 24 points ) You have the option of pursuing either an industry experience progam or a research project .
• As a research pathway student , you ’ ll complete : – Masters thesis part 1 – Masters thesis part 2 – Masters thesis part 3 – Masters thesis part final .
• As an industry experience student , you ’ ll complete : – Professional practice – Industry experience studio project ( 12 points ) – A Level 5 IT elective .
Career opportunities
The highly flexible degree covers the business IT spectrum from supporting business operations through to supporting managers ’ decision making . It ’ ll prepare you for roles such as senior business management , business analysts , systems analysts , project leaders , as well as information managers , archivists or librarians . You ’ ll find career opportunities in areas like :
• business information systems
• data science and data mining
• business intelligence and knowledge management
• information systems and management
• IT governance and software development methodologies
• research for mobile apps , wearable technologies , image processing , intelligent health , robotics and data science
• practical industrial upskilling with leading companies or non-governmental organisations .
Entry requirements
ELIGIBILITY
Australian bachelor ’ s degree ( or equivalent ) in a related discipline
Any other qualification deemed equivalent by the University .
• Meet the English language requirements of the University . The following English proficiency tests are accepted :
– Monash English Bridging
– IELTS – Overall band score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0
– Internet-based TOEFL / TOEFL IBT Special Home Edition – Total score of 79 with 12 in Listening , 13 in Reading , 21 in Writing and 18 in Speaking
– Certified paper-based TOEFL – Total score of 550 with TWE of 4.5
– PTE – Overall score of 58 with no Communicative Skills lower than 50 .
– CAE , CPE or Linguaskill General – Minimum overall score of 176 with no skill score lower than 169 .
The above tests must be taken within 36 months prior to the course commencement date .
