One Small Step Forward

anada — Vancouver and surrounding areas, specifically. It was my first

time visiting there last weekend. Not only was I surprised at the

cleaniness of most parts of the cities and the vast forests that seem to wrap around civilization, there were also swarms of Asians everywhere, mostly Chinese. I thought, “Am I in Canada or Hong Kong?” It was a mild shocker for this southern California native who had burst his own little cocoon.

Aside from that culture shock, I attended the RMTBC's fourth manual therapy conference, which in some ways, resembles the purpose of the San Diego Pain Summit: bridging science and critical thinking with hands-on practice. Most of the talks challenge our current thinking of how we explain what we do. Having connected and interacted with some RMTs, they made me rethink about what we massage therapists and personal trainers can improve in how we communicate with our clients and professional standards in the U.S.

I hope you enjoy some of these challenges presented in this issue. It may be uncomfortable at first, but once you understand it, you may be more liberated.
