If we move away from the post-
Soviet space, this is Ren Hang
(who died 2 years ago), Glen
Luchford, Alexandra Leese, etc.
They do not shoot parties, but
they somehow see people in a
special way.
6. How important is to get
awarded for the work you do?
This is as important as you are. For some, this is the only and
permanent job. For some, this is more of an experience and
experiment (as for me, for example). If I get paid for drinks at the
bar and with tickets for me and my friends – fine, if they offer me
money, that’s fine too. I photographed festivals in St. Petersburg,
where the entrance cost more than my then fee. And getting there
by the photographer (for no reason) was a bliss. At the moment, I
am still looking for myself in photography, trying to feel what I like
and what I do not.
I do not share the idea that real
creativity cannot be commerce
– if people are willing to pay for
what you do, why not? Another
thing – do not turn into a robot and
still get high on the process.
7. What is your favorite subject
to photograph?
The people.
8. What do you wish people
knew about you?
About me? Let people know
about themselves that they are
beautiful. And seeing beauty is
also art. About me – my photos.
