This dynamic ensemble of hereditary West African master musicians and dancers
fills the air with soaring melodies and driving rhythms as the ancient arts of West Africa
are brought to life. Led by renowned Fana Soro, the performance is a feast of
traditional songs, stories, athletic dance and absolutely stunning musicianship.

Africa and hear the story of Masa-Senekela, a king who is worried about his hungry
people. How can they feed them, day after day? The solution he comes to, is to plant
fruit trees! Mangoes, mahogany nuts, avocados, papayas and bananas will not only feed
the people of his community, but the birds, monkeys and other animals as well. Masa-
Senekela works the land to feed his people, accompanied by dance, song and music.

Master percussionist Fana Soro introduces students to traditional playing techniques
of the djembé, West Africa's most popular drum. Fana also shares call and response
songs in his mother tongue of Senoufo.

Fana Soro, former nine-year member of the National Ballet of Côte d'Ivoire, introduces
students to choreography from traditional dances of Côte d'Ivoire and shares the
cultural significance and joy of the movements!
