Aboriginal Experiences Available: September – April, 2019 Workshops (2 artists) Performances In each performance Aboriginal Experiences will offer a traditional opening and a welcome song, concluding with artist introductions and open discussion about First Nations culture. Sky Woman Falls to the Earth (Grades K - 8/sec II) Sky Woman Falls to the Earth is an ancient Haudenosaunee creation story. Using mask, movement and scripted narration, the story brings the audience to a time when there was only a water world and a sky world. From this legend we learn how sky woman created what we now know as Turtle Island. Spirit of Dance (Grades K - 12/sec V) This performance celebrates the diversity of our evolving culture with vibrant performances of five unique Pow Wow dance styles set to the “heartbeat” of the drum, concluding with a special contemporary hoop dance as well as a friendship dance. MAxIMuM : 325 STuDENTS ONE PERFORMANCE : 50 minutes (incl. Q & A) $795 + HST $1095 + HST TWO PERFORMANCES : SAME SCHOOL IN ONE DAY Pieces of Creation (Grades 1 - 6) Learn about the story of Sky Woman Falls to the Earth, or follow up an in- school performance. Through creative imagination students will translate their version of the story, through native woodland style of art, using character stencils and acrylic paints. The students will gain a better understanding of the characters’ significance in First Nations culture. Feel the Heartbeat (Grades K - 12/sec V) Explore First Nations culture through their strong connection to Mother Earth. This interactive workshop includes an opportunity to play horn rattles, as well as learn social and stomp dances.
