MASC Young Authors and Illustrators Festival The MASC Young Authors and Illustrators Festival is an annual, three-day literary event, which brings some of Canada’s finest writers and illustrators of children’s books to Ottawa every spring to work with 450 aspiring young authors and illustrators ages 9-13. The day is packed with literary activities including artist presentations and readings, hands-on creative workshops, book sales, and author signings. This year was the final year to host the Festival at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, due to limited workshop spaces. We are thrilled to have found a new space for the April 2020 Festival at the Canada Science and Technology Museum, which will provide suitable classrooms for workshop presentations as well as a rich museum experience to participants. What Events “I had a lot of fun and I am definitely coming back next year. I really enjoy writing. It’s so cool to work with real authors. It really inspired me.” Participant MASC Your Story Festival MASC’s annual literary festival for teens brings six Canadian authors or illustrators to Ottawa in February to work with 120 students from Grades 8 to 12. In its 5th year, the Festival was held on February 8th at Confederation Education Centre and featured hands-on creative workshops, a panel discussion hosted by Adrian Harewood of CBC, a story telling performance by South African storyteller Jacqui Du Toit, author readings and a book fair with artist signings. Participating artists were Tim Wynne-Jones, Marie-Louise Gay, Lesley Livingston, Jamaal Rogers, Theresa Toten and Tory Woollcott. MASC is grateful to the OCDSB and Leacross Foundation for their support of this Festival. “The MASC conferences have truly been inspirational to me and have brought me great happiness and improved confidence over the past four years.” Participant 8
