Schools
During the 2018-19 school year, 120,403 students from 16 English
and French school boards participated in 285 performances and 1395
workshops. Additionally, 58 residencies were offered providing a
deeper experience with a professional artist for projects spanning
more than three days.
Community
MASC is very involved in the community through our community
engaged arts programs, our Seniors program and through
partnerships with many arts and community organizations. Over 279
programs were booked with 71 venues serving seniors and community
venues in English and French.
Arts Community
We were thrilled to be partners again with the Cultural Pluralism for
the Arts Movement Ontario (CPAMO), Arts Network Ottawa and Folk
Music Ottawa in the delivery of programming and opportunities for
refugee and immigrant artists. In 2018-19 these organizations hosted
4 sessions including panel discussions, workshops, networking
opportunities as well as showcases. MASC provided marketing support,
our venue as an event location as well as presenting at both a
workshop and a panel. We continue to be involved with these partners
as well as the newly established Multicultural Artist Coalition.
The SttARTS program A partnership with Youth Ottawa, the OCDSB and MASC
MASC was pleased to partner with Youth Ottawa and the OCDSB to
deliver the pilot SttARTS program (Storytelling through the Arts).
MASC artist Jacqui Du Toit offered workshops to students in 12
intermediate classes this year, encouraging students to develop and
tell their own stories. The students then worked with Jamaal Jackson
Rogers of Youth Ottawa, through their Artistic Mentorship Program
(AMP), who developed a fabulous series of showcase events where
the students shared their stories.
Great Canadian Theatre Company
MASC partnered with the GCTC to expand their Education & Learning
program, through delivering MASC workshops which complement
theatre performances. Four plays were paired with four MASC artists
and eight school groups, resulting in a rich experience for the
participants and artists as well as the development of a deeper
partnership between our two arts organizations.
