Martensville’s Free Pantry

Martensville’s newly founded Free
Pantry needs the help of the community
in order to grow. The Free Pantry is an
anonymous charity working towards lending
a hand to families within our community
who need it. The idea is for our own
community members and small businesses
to donate non-perishables and day to day
household items into the pantry. Those who
are in need will then have free range over
the contents of the pantry, taking whatever
their family may need to aid and support
themselves at that time. "Since volunteering
with the Christmas food hampers last year
I know for a fact that there are people in
Martensville who need help, and need food.
Having a location where our community
members can anonymously access a pantry
full of food is a great idea," says founder
of the Martensville Free Pantry initiative,
Marcy Cross.
The pantry is currently being run
out of a home; however, with the support of
the community, founders are hoping to find
a new location for the anonymous recipients
of the pantry. Ideally, Cross would like
to see the free pantry located indoors with
the ability to support a refrigerator to help
maintain donations of perishable items.
With Martensville’s growing community,
charities such as this are being sought
after more and more. Statistics Canada has
proven that a whopping 50% of Canadians
are merely living from paycheque to
paycheque. This is not a comfortable
statistic as necessities are not something
that can be gone without if a family has
the misfortune of a missing paycheque.
“The Martensville Pantry program is in its
infancy and will be looking for support as
it grows and finds the best way to serve
the people of Martensville,” Cross added.
The Martensville Free Pantry is
asking for your support in spreading the
information about the existence of the
Pantry and will happily take donations as
well. Please visit the page on Facebook
at ‘Martensville Free Pantry’ or contact
Marcy at (306) 261-2966 for more
information.
