soil. Food production will happen indoors, lighted by LED lighting which will reduce

power consumption. Each astronaut will be given 3 fresh/frozen/sealed meals a day that

include the appropriate amount of calories, fats, proteins and nutrients needed for a

healthy lifestyle.

The third necessity is clean air. Oxygen can be produced by splitting water into its

constituent parts, hydrogen and oxygen. The oxygen will be used to provide a breathable

atmosphere in the living units and a portion will be reserved for conditions when there is

less power available, for example at night and during dust storms.

The fourth and last necessity is exercise. Since the life units will be fairly confined,

there will not be enough room to properly exercise. To correct this, each of the astronauts

will receive a customized exercise plan individualized to fit their psychical needs.

These steps are being put into order to make life on Mars just as comfortable as life on

Earth. If these steps are carried out successfully, Mars One will become a planet-wide

sensation as well as a world-wide bonding experience.
