The S1 ' s have been learning about all the benefits of reading and how it improves their speech and mental wellbeing. It can also help you understand more confusing words and expand your knowledge and vocabulary.
Veganuary
Written by Callie Alexander, S1
The S1s have been learning about Veganuary in their personal support classes in the morning where they were shown the possible consequences that could come from eating too much meat.
A teacher in our English department, Mrs. Redgate, created the presentation that was shown to classes. The presentation mentioned that eating too much meat( especially red meat) can cause health problems like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and increase the chances of a stroke. There is also a higher risk of bowel cancer from eating too much red or processed meat. It told us how plant-based meat, regular meat and lab-created meat is made and how it is being produced in countries even though it ' s still in the works, and how Singapore approved it made from animal cells in 2020. It said that replacing just one red meat meal a day with chicken or plant-based meat could keep you and your heart healthier.
People have participated in Veganuary since 2014, and it is very important to a lot of people and helps them have better eating habits and some people convert to veganism after participating.
One of our S1s said " I think more people should try being vegan because they are killing animals that could have been there before you " it ' s clear the Veganuary presentations have stuck with our s1s even if not all of them decided to participate.
Veganuary is all about making kinder choices for your body, the animals and the environment and might be wort a shot trying out veganism, did you give it a go?
