Issue Number 04 | November 2019 Art and Design Photography Competition The Art and Design Department are running an Instagram photography competition every month. Each month has a different theme it is open to all pupils and staff at Marr. In October four images that captured the theme of Autumn were shortlisted, these were then posted on the Instagram page again and the photograph with the most likes after 24 hours was the winner. Dan Murray in S1 was the clear winner with 155 likes on his autumnal coloured sunset photograph. The staff winner was Mr Strachan for his colour select leaf. Well done to all entries, we look forward to seeing your photographs for November in the theme of the colour blue. Add pictures down to one painting which we felt had the most visual impact and represented Christmas. The winner of this competition was Rebecca Muir in S3. Rebecca’s creation will then be used in a unique gallery alongside a Christmas message. Social Enterprise Academy Success 21 students from S3 travelled with Mrs Stevenson and Miss McNeill to the Academy Rooms, in Edinburgh, to receive their Social Enterprise Award. The students were celebrated for running their social enterprises:  ‘Bixbox’ an S1 Home Economics Subscription service which uses Vegware compostable containers  ‘Marr Merchants’ a group selling school/house branded items such as pens, pencils and wristbands,  ‘Shake It’ and ‘Drink’n’Dash’ our weekly smoothie bar providers. The students were presented with their award by Deputy First Minister of Scotland John Swinney. The students were a real credit to Marr College and thoroughly deserved this recognition. Christmas Artwork Competition South Ayrshire Council and Owen Kerr Signs are once again producing ‘Little Stars Light Up Ayr’ artwork banners which will be displayed as window vinyls within Ayr Town Centre.
