Issue Number 04 | November 2019 Student Investor Challenge Ayrshire Business Women This year our S3-6 Accounting students are taking part in the Student Investor Challenge. This is an international competition run by the London Institute of Banking and Finance which involves students working in teams to invest £200,000 of virtual money on the stock exchange. Students use their commercial awareness and problem- solving skills to decide which companies to invest in. The top prize on offer is £200 for each team member and a trip to New York! All students who participate will receive a certificate from the London Institute of Banking and Finance. Mrs McFetridge, Mrs Thomson and Mr Moffat attended an ABW (Ayrshire Business Women) event at the Marine Hotel on Tuesday 8 October alongside 10 eager S5/6 Business Management students. The evening started with refreshments and networking opportunities allowing our students to hear first-hand what it takes to make it in business and gaining valuable contacts. Students were treated to a 3-course meal and heard a business presentation from the guest speaker - Alison Blair (Buzzworks). This was an amazing event and Alison had us all hanging on her every word. She gave an uncut story of her journey from 'rags to riches' and even offered to mentor any budding entrepreneurs! The students thoroughly enjoyed their evening with the ABW, gained valuable local business contacts and an understanding of how networking can help in the business environment.   Catch 22 Business Education Trip Six of our senior students took part in an Alice and Wonderland themed ‘escape the room’ at Catch 22 in Glasgow. Olivia, Laurie, Aidan, Harvey, Daniel and Murray were locked in an Escape Room for 60 minutes. The group had to find clues and work as a team to escape from the room. Throughout this venture they all showed great teamwork and leadership skills and managed to escape with 5 minutes to spare! The group had previously competed in last year’s Sir Tom Hunter Final and won £2,500 for the school. The group enjoyed celebrating their success throughout the day and even managed a visit to Pizza Hut much to their delight! A wonderful day was had by all. 10
