Our S3 #DigiInventors Challenge
winners, ‘Shake it Up’, received
some exciting news at the start of
the new school year about the
development of their app. After
winning the competition last year,
Olivia, Caitlin and Grace met with
app developers at SwarmOnline in
Glasgow to plan and design their
app. The app is called ‘Shake it Up’
and aims to allow students to pre-
order their lunch using their mobile
phone, it also allocates house points
based on healthy choices made by
students about their meal.
Micro Tyco – Innovate
This year the Business Department
are launching ‘Micro Tyco Innovate’
with the S3 Social Enterprise classes.
The students will be split into teams
and must create a business idea
which will contribute towards one or
more of the UN’s 17 Sustainable
Development Goals. Some of the
ideas from the teams so far include
an app which allows people to
locate their nearest bin/recycling
area to reduce littering and a pop-
up café to allow work experience
for the unemployed. The final ideas
will be sent to Micro Tyco at the end
of November and if successful our
teams will be asked to compete in a
regional final – good luck to all
involved!
SwarmOnline have since been in
touch with a clickable prototype of
the winning app! The team were
delighted to see their idea come to
life. The team have been invited to
attend a pre-conference reception
and awards ceremony this month in
the DHI Demonstration & Simulation
Environment
(University
of
Strathclyde,
Technology
&
Innovation Building). The event is to
celebrate the winners and will
provide a networking opportunity
with some of the conference
speakers, including international
speakers and guests along with key
influencers and decision makers
