Remembrance Day
Certificate of Merit

On the 7th of November 2019,
Marr College was awarded a
Certificate of Merit from WW100
Scotland. Marr College was
selected due to the effort put in
by our History department and
pupils. This award was achieved
through a lengthy process which
involved applying in April,
submitting a portfolio of work,
which included the history
course outline, tasks pupils had
carried out in relation to World
War 1. A group of students, Mr
Moncreiff,
Mr
Morton,
Mr
Docherty, two of our house
captains and our school news
team met with Major David
Dickson who presented the
award, saying that it was “a
great privilege” and that “our
dedication and effort was
appreciated”. The certificate
was signed by Iona McDonald,
Lord Lieutenant of Ayrshire and
Arran and Professor Norman
Drummond.
Major Dickson served our
country during the war for forty
years before returning to his
childhood home in Ayrshire. His
father fought in the Battle of
Paradise during WW2. He
congratulates us on “a well-
deserved award”. Also involved
were James and Peter, two
members of the Royal British
Legion Scotland, their motto “in
service not self”, they work to
tackle loneliness and offer
companionship to war veterans.
The group are in charge of
leading
the
remembrance
parade in Troon, which will be
attended by two of our school
captains, Rosie Tudor and Calum
Inglis.

Troon Remembrance Service
On Remembrance Sunday the
Head Teacher was joined by Rosie
Tudor and Calum Inglis at the
Troon Remembrance Service held
at the Cenotaph and then
afterwards in Troon Old Parish
Church. Calum delivered the
Exhortation at the Cenotaph and
Rosie gave the first reading at the
joint church service. A wreath
was laid at the Cenotaph on
behalf of all staff and pupils of
Marr College.
