Issue Number 04 | November 2019 Senior Girls Handball National Champions 8 th On Friday November the Senior Girls Handball team were crowned National Champions! Competing against eight other schools at the National Championships at Ravenscraig Sports Centre, the girls finished top of the round robin group with six wins and one draw. An action packed final against Our Lady’s Cumbernauld didn’t disappoint. Trailing 4-3 in the final seconds of the game, Marr were awarded a free throw from 9m. In the last second of the game, Jemma Lee scored with a Thurderbolt to take it to penalties. Super penalties from Jemma, Freya and Ciara plus two outstanding saves from Christie ensured Marr were crowned Champions. Congratulations, and well done, to the girls for a magnificent sporting display; - Sophie Woods, Abbey McAlindon, Jemma Lee, Freya McDonald, Keera Morley, Erin Bell, Ciara Paterson, Christie McDonald and Coach Chris Kerr. Under 18 Scottish Champion! Everyone here at Marr College would like to wish a huge congratulations to Ross Gouldstone in S5 on becoming the Under 18s Scottish Indoor Bowls Champion. He qualified for the televised National Scottish Young Masters Final in Perth. He has also qualified to represent Scotland Internationally at the upcoming International Open in November. Well done Ross! Womens U17 Euro Qualifications We were delighted to follow the achievements of Freya MacDonald in S5 while she played for the Scotland’s Womens Under 17 football squad during the October break. This is a fantastic achievement and Freya helped the team have a successful campaign - they finished 2nd in their group and qualified for the Elite Round of the Womens U17 Euro qualifications! This included a 4-0 victory over Montenegro. Best of luck for the next stage! 16
