This term our S3 classes took part in a Team ' s call during their elective periods to listen to Mike Haines , brother of David Haines , talk about an issue close to his heart .
David told the story of how he came to find out that his brother had been murdered by a terrorist group called ISIS , and how he chooses to be kind and brave against terrorism and encourages people to say no to hate .
Global Acts of Unity was set up by Mike Haines after the death of his brother David in September 2014 . A campaign promoting unity , tolerance and understanding in schools . Mike says that he launched Global Acts of Unity so something positive could come out of his brother ’ s senseless and barbaric murder .
Mike now tours schools and colleges to talk about his story and educate others .
Lights , Camera , Action ! BBC L . A . B Filming
Marr College have been working with the BBC L . A . B . Team to create informative short videos featuring our students . BBC L . A . B aim to inspire and help provide the skills students need in order to create their own masterpiece . They work with community groups and schools from across Scotland with the aim of bringing great ideas to life across multiple media disciplines . This could be videos , photography or even podcasts . This was an exciting opportunity for our students and we can ’ t wait to see the finished videos ! We will keep you up to date on their progress .
