Cindy Ligertwood and Ellie Cook ‘ we worked together as a year group to raise as much money as possible and we ’ re glad we could help in some way ’. Headteacher , George Docherty , said ‘ I ’ m really proud of how the S6 and the school community responded to the appeal .
Sincere thanks to our students , staff , parents and the wider community for their donations and many thanks to St Meddans Church for allowing us to join their own fundraising campaign and finding a way to transport the items directly to where the support is needed ’.
Donations and the Journey to Poland
Written by , Eva Mackinnon , S3
“ On the 11th March , many of us handed in donations to help the refugees in occupied Ukraine . Donations included stationery , toothpaste , Sudocreme , nappies etc . We also managed to raise over £ 2,400 with the S6 Bake Sale and the just giving page Marr set up .
On Sunday 27th March , a small team from churches around Troon ( Seagate and St Meddans included ) are travelling to Poland to deliver the items from school and the Ayrshire community . They will be driving down to Newcastle to take the overnight ferry to Amsterdam and then will drive through Holland and Germany before arriving in Warsaw , Poland roughly on Tuesday morning . They will be staying for just under a week , to help and be with the refugees . The team will also be bringing back some Ukrainian refugees back to Troon with them which is amazing . I will write all about their trip in our next newsletter . Thank you so much for all your donations !”
