Scottish Jewish Heritage Centre Trip
On the 24th January , 17 S1-S3 pupils along with Mrs . Drewett and Miss Frew went to the Scottish Jewish Heritage Centre in Glasgow . On the day , we got to see the Synagogue where Jews go to worship . We got to see the Torah which is the holy book for their religion- we learned that it was all written in Hebrew . Some of the boys got to wear Yarmulkes which is a small hat worn by Jewish men as a sign of respect .
After the tour of the heritage centre , we were split up into two groups . My group was learning about a girl called Dorrith ( pronounced Dorrit ) who was a Jewish girl living in Germany who moved to Scotland without her parents , not knowing the English language and living with strangers , whom she grew to love . The other group learned about another German - a woman named Hilda who also escaped to Scotland for safety .
On Holocaust Memorial Day ( 28th January ) classes were shown a PowerPoint which presented information and facts from the pupils who went all about the trip . This was also the first school trip since COVID came 2 years ago !
