TRAIL
MIXER
My cousin is thinking about relocating to Detroit.
Situations develop that, sometimes, afford you just enough
glimmer of opportunity to get you through the door. Your
heart can be 600 miles away. But, you have to have your head
i the ga e he you’re really ready to ake that o
it-
ment.
As most of its local institutions count down to their various
Detroit ‘
a paig s, it’s iro i that y ousi is o 50
years old. He o ’t ha e a y e otio al o e tio to all the
nostalgic tugging and pulling among the major museums, like
the Charles Wright Museum of African-American History, to
attract a newer audience of potential donors.
I wish that it would. The saving grace is that his mother is still
a o g the li i g there. Perhaps, she’ll share so e of the
Detroit that I once knew with him and get him to buy tickets.
At least, I k o he’ll ha e ple ty of ti e to ast his pole i to
o e of the Great Lakes hile he’s there. A d, ha e a ooler
full of fish for the eekly Friday ights i so e ody’s a k
yard.
I just ai ’t make the trip this time around. Commitments
around the crib require my immediate attention, here.
