The PUBLISHER ’ S Pen
2016 was an incredible year for a number of reasons .
Did we accomplish what we planned for MARQUEE ? It depends on how you define it .

The PUBLISHER ’ S Pen

I learned a helluva lot about the publishing game . I learned even more about the digital technology that drives it . As such , we will continue to identify ways to make each issue resonate with you , our loyal readership .
If you haven ’ t seen “ Fences ”, I urge you to drop everything you ’ re doing and get down to your local cinema . ( Before some group or other decides it wants to boycott the screenings .) Not because it enriches Paramount Pictures or anybody else . My recommendation is based on the remarkable interchange among the cast members .
I ’ d seen the stage play on Broadway many years ago with Ruben Santiago- Hudson in the lead . It got him a Tony Award .
I don ’ t know who will win an Emmy for the big screen adaptation . But , it doesn ’ t matter to me . Because the film drives home the point of why I first launched MARQUEE last February from its outset : To provide a platform where OUR stories could be shared .
Here ’ s to 2017 . Maybe our voices will ring with basso profundo . It is about time that Black Men stand up and tell it like is . Instead of like it ain ’ t by simply sitting back and letting less seasoned veterans paint the tale for a generation of folks who have been led down a path of least resistance . Whatever the hell THAT is .
By the way , I still don ’ t know where these folks get this intersectionality bullshit .
