20 FASHION Get styled for summer An insight into summer trends with local designer, Hayley Rhind of White Chalk. It feels like summer has decided to grace us early with these lovely warm Marlborough days. It’s already time to start thinking of the wonderful summer events and special occasions coming up, but wait, have you got your summer wardrobe sorted? There is nothing more deflating when you throw open your wardrobe doors feeling excited about an impending event you can get dressed up for, only to find that there is nothing jumping out at you saying - “pick me, I’d be perfect” Luckily, like many local retailers, White Chalk is currently dropping their new season summer styles like it’s hot! Hay ley Rhind Hayley, owner and designer of the White Chalk range has her fingers on the pulse when it comes to knowing what is hot and what’s not, especially for busy women wanting to feel wonderful wherever they go. Hayley points out that v-necks, cold shoulder (which is open cut sleeves), and off the shoulder tops are definitely the ‘on trend’ style. Both styles either accentuate the neckline or the bare shoulder, allowing the wearer to feel a little more carefree, especially with the heat of summer. What about fabric styles and colours that will work together? It’s all about larger prints, stripes & florals. “Go bold, is the theme of this season” says Hayley. “There is no hard and fast rule about putting different patterns together, if it works then wear it! Don’t be afraid to overindulge in the different shapes and colours a piece flaunts, you’ll love the way they work together”.
