HOUSE & GARDEN
This quintessential Marlborough Sounds property was transformed into a spectacular permanent home
with the foresight and skill of Andrew Lawson of Lawson Homes and Architectural Designer, Mark Hawkins.
Once a quirky mix of 1970’s charm, this
rejuvenated Queen Charlotte Sound
property now sits proudly on a majestic
site deserving of such a build.
and pole structure not only ruled out
unnecessary complications but also saved
considerable time and expense, all while
fulfilling the brief to improve the layout
to maximise the views and completely
modernise the home.
This stunning renovation, which took

access. Materials were delivered in small
loads at precise increments, dependent
on the progress and stage of the build.

A combination of factors led to the decision
to opt for a renovation over a complete
rebuild. The site had a feast of attributes
with easy road access (a mere 5-minute
drive from Waikawa) and privacy from all
aspects; however, the existing dwelling
took no advantage of the spectacular
outlook. Any project on the site was going
to present a challenge, so the decision
to work with the existing solid platform
