By nature , birds are flock animals , who form strong bonds with other members of the same species . If you ’ re choosing small birds like lovebirds or budgies , it makes sense to have two , as long as they are of the same species . Keep in mind though , that even two of the same species who are “ strangers ” might not necessarily take to one another straight away . If possible , it ’ s best to get a pair that have been hand raised together and are already bonded .
Never buy wild-caught birds or take a bird out of the wild to make it your pet . Rather adopt a bird that is already used to living in captivity .
