Storm preparation should extend beyond plants alone. Secure or store lightweight pots, ornaments and hanging baskets before storms arrive. Patio umbrellas should be packed away, while tools and outdoor equipment should be stored safely indoors. Tall or vulnerable plants may need staking for support, but they should still be allowed some movement in the wind. Plants tied too tightly are often more likely to snap during storms.
