THE HISTORY OF CAT DOMESTICATION
Around 10,000 to 11,000 years ago , humans in the Mediterranean region began farming , which attracted mice and rats . To control these rodents , the wild cat ( Felis silvestris ) was domesticated into the domestic cat ( Felis catus ). Research indicates that all domestic cats originated from four regions :
Asia , the Mediterranean basin , Western Europe , and East Asia . American cat breeds are originally from Western Europe , brought over by European settlers .
BEHAVIOURAL DIFFERENCES AMONG BREEDS
Although cats were not bred for specific working roles like dogs , there are still significant behavioural differences among breeds .
