The easiest time to weed is after watering, when the soil is soft and roots pull out cleanly. In dry, hard ground weeds often snap off and resprout. Once you have weeded, cover the exposed soil immediately with mulch, because disturbed soil and sunlight trigger a new wave of germination. Mulch is what breaks the cycle and keeps your summer effort from becoming a weekly repeat.
